Profiles

We have included profiles to illustrate the diversity of our members, in addition to the diversity of our activities; as you will undoubtedly realise, actually joining our events allows to meet far more members, and establish that you feel part of the Society.

Arthur Krebbers currently studies ‘Philosophy and Economics’ at the London School of Economics. He selected London for its truly cosmopolitan atmosphere and the UK for the approach to academic studies. In his spare time he is a free-lance journalist, co-presented at the BBC via an internship, and is involved with the Student’s Union. His sports are cycling (what else would you expect a Dutchman to do?), running, swimming and tennis.

Saskia Bosch joined the Society in 1994, when touring the UK with her music ensemble ‘La Muse’, which performed at the 75th Anniversary Dinner in the Langham Hilton. She works as a Promotions Director for the National Geographic Channel and recently set up her own voice website. She can often be heard in interviews for Radio 1 in Holland and recently took part in a short film about Amsterdam during the Golden Age. Saskia is also a member of the Anglo-Netherlands Events Committee. “The great thing about this Society is that you visit places you’ve never been before, and meet interesting people you never thought you’d meet”

Photo of Barry Weatherill

Mark Hendriksen is the Honorary Secretary of the Anglo-Netherlands Society, his (Dutch) Opa (grand father) having been one of the very first members of the Society back in the 1920’s. Today, Opa’s daughter, son, grandsons Mark and Neil (Head of the British School in the Hague) and great grandchildren Christiaan and Gemma, and James and Thomas are all members of the society.
Mark’s background is a publisher of travel magazines and now children’s publishing. He is also introducing a mobile phone technology that connects cameraphones directly to the internet.

Rineke and Barry Weatherill are ‘around retirement age’. Barry, a partner at a firm of Solicitors, was awarded a CBE for his work as chairman of the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. He is also a director of the All England Lawn Tennis Ground. Barry and Rineke are one of the many ‘bi-national couples’ who joined our Society because of the diversity in the people whom they can meet there.
